Hymn Sing First Sunday of the Month

October 3, 2008 - 10:35 AM

Remember, Sunday afternoon at 5pm will be our first monthly hymn sing.  We know there will be some people from other churches in attendance.  This will be a great opportunity for some good singing and meeting new people.  Invite some friends and if you need glasses to read the hymnal, bring your glasses.  We are going to start in the fellowship hall, to see how many people come.  The singing will sound much better there.  We hope that we will soon outgrow the space and have to move into the sanctuary.

I had a call the other day from a company that wants to give us free copies of an audio Bible.  The catch is that it is all on a single cd in mp3 format.  So I want to poll you.  How many could or would actually use an mp3 format cd audio Bible?  Some cd players would read the files, others would not.  Most computers could read it, but would we sit at or near the computer to listen to Bible reading for an extended period.  Some one could transfer it to regular cd's, but that would take a long time and some expense.

So, if you would benefit from an audio cd of the Bible in mp3 format and would like one, send me an e-mail or write audio Bible on your communication card on Sunday.

We are talking with another church group that wants to come and do flood recovery.  This is a group of about 15 people coming from the Minneapolis area on October 13.

On October 25 we will again be the collection center for the scouting for food drive.  The Boy scouts spread out all over town collecting groceries for area food bank.  They bring the food here, where they lay it out all over the youth center, sorting it into boxes.  They leave us about 400 food items for our food bank.  We have done this for over 15 years.  It has been a great collaboration with the scouts and a great service to our community.

I am preparing to teach a Monday evening class, starting in just a few weeks.  It will be "How to Read the Bible For All Its Worth"  I recently taught it on Sunday mornings, This Monday evening format will give me a bit longer for each class session, so we can get more detail.  It will also be a chance to share the class with some of the people from Genesis.

This class will be the start of a leadership training series that we want to do.  A series of classes which will prepare people to take leadership positions in the church.  Watch for more info on this in the days to come.
