ADVENTures in Faith (Part IV)

As we come to the end of this Advent season we are reminded of the faith of Mary and Joseph...and of Jesus.  What a difficult cup to bear for the betrothed couple...to bear the shame of unwed pregnancy, even though it was sanctified!  To bear the very Son of God, the Anointed One, the Savior of the World!  Who could carry that weight of that burden?  Only those whose faith was strong and pure and, apparently, God given.
According to the author of Hebrews, Jesus Himself is the "founder and perfecter" of our faith!  The Son of God is the One who initiates faith in us ("founds" it) and who matures it ("perfects" it).  This weekend we will give thanks for the Gift of Faith that God has given us through Jesus Christ our Lord...He embodies faith and when we walk in faith, we embody Him.  "Thanks be to God for His inexpressible gift!" (II Corinthians 9:15)
O Come Let Us Adore Him...together...this weekend!

Soup Luncheon
11:45 pm Sunday, January 8th

Now that Genesis and The River are worshipping together on Sunday mornings, we want to celebrate being together by sharing a meal! Plan on coming the 8th for some soup and fellowship. We want to hear all about your holidays celebrating the birth of Jesus! If several people can help bring things for the meal, that would help a lot. The bread will be provided. We need several crocks of soup (to serve about 20 each), plus, veggies or fruit, cheese and desserts. Sign up at the Welcome Center at The River or respond here to come and if you can bring one of the items listed. We are excited to see you. Meet someone new on the 8th that maybe you've seen but don't know well!

Go and Share...

We receive many updates from those serving in the US and around the world. Here is a brief report from each. Please pick up their entire letters in the Resource Room at The River. Lots to pray for, whew, but God is faithful! An easy but important way to serve Jesus!

Bridges

We just held our Life Options conference for juniors and seniors who were challenged to invest their lives for eternity, whether they choose to work in any vocation, in US ministry, or missions. In 2009, 310 students attended. This year, 403 participated! God is clearly raising more laborers to invest their future well and impact the world for Christ.

This breakfast discussion included Internationals who are seeking to invest their lives to reach others now, and after graduation. As we talked about how God is guiding their futures,  3 staff who lead Bridges movements also invited them to missions and cross-cultural outreach.

Kun (center) is from a Muslim country that includes many Chinese and is praying how to reach out when he returns.  In the process of reaching Internationals, God is also using Bridges to give American Christians very positive experiences and take steps toward missions.

HOLIDAYS: *We are taking 2 charter buses with 80 Internationals, 20 Cru staff and student leaders who minister to them, on Dec.27th–Jan.2nd to our Washington DC conference, Vision ’11. We will have great Christian teaching & small group Bible studies. About half are seekers, so pray for them to be drawn to Christ.

*Hannah has applied to Moody Bible in Chicago-please pray she gets early acceptance in January.

Bartsch

Census: In 1950 there were no reported Christians in one of the countries where we serve. The census was recently completed in this country and it shows that the population is 26.5 million and there are now over 1.5 million Believers. Praise God for his working in people's lives!
Help wanted: Carla has been planning to step down from her administrative job, so she can focus on training Translators in  countries to follow the natural patterns of their own language as they translate the Word.  Please pray for laborers!

All of our field staff need more support, especially at the end of the year. If you are interested in helping, you can contact them through their letters or through The River office.

These are excerpts of letters. Entire prayer letters, free resources and more opportunities are all located in the Resource Center at The river. If you would like to share a Go & Share story of how you see God working, please send it to us, we'd love to share it!
