The Second Week of Advent

Pastor Dave Conrads

This Advent season we are tracing HOPE through the Scriptures.

On the road to Emmaus, Jesus told two disciples:  "Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms." (Luke 24:44) Last week we looked at HOPE in the Law (of Moses).  This week we will discover HOPE in the Prophets (primarily in Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel).  As we continue to prepare for the remembrance of the Christ's 1st Advent (Christmas), we look forward, as well to the HOPE of his promised 2nd Advent; when he will return and make all things new!  (Revelation 21:5) O Come Let Us Adore Him...together!

God's grace and peace to you through our Lord Jesus Christ,

Dave

Blue Hymnals

Pastor Gail Mitchell

In 1957 Elvis released his recording of Blue Christmas.  Paul Bunyan had is blue ox, Babe.  We have a new blue carpet and pews, which replaced the red ones.  I went to the internet to price new blue hymnals to replace the red ones.  I found several, priced at $10 to $15 each.  That would cost us $2000-$3000.  Then, by what I believe to be the providence of God, I found a local church which had 140 blue hymnals, just like the ones we have, and they haven't used them for several years, and would sell them to us at $2 each.

Then, someone came in to my office and offered to pay some money toward new hymnals.  (Again I see the providence of God.)  We got the 140 hymnals (you probably guessed that, since we have been using them for a month.)  I would like to get 20 to 40 more, to fill out the pews and have a few spares.  Then I noticed (sometimes it takes a while for me to notice, but I finally did) that I have a blue hymnal at home, and I remembered that several of us bought them when the church did.  And then I thought that maybe some of you had blue hymnals at home, like I do, and might be willing to trade for a red one, and that might move us closer to the goal, without much money spent.

So... I decided to put a box of red hymnals in the resource center, for anyone who wants to trade for a blue one.  Then I thought, maybe someone might like to buy one of the red ones for home.  And I thought that $2 each would be a fair price, since that is what we had to pay.  So... I decided I should put at least 2 boxes of red hymnals in the resource center, in case someone wanted to trade, or to buy one.  So...I am going to go and sort out some of the best red hymnals, to get ahead of the Christmas rush.  See you Sunday.
