It Has Been a Busy Week
Shoe boxes coming in every day. This year we had a group of college students volunteer to help. They have been wrapping boxes and getting keeping things in order. We have over 500 boxes now. Saturday we will take a trailer over to Parkview to pick up their boxes. We are expecting them to make 400 or 500 boxes. Then Sunday, and again on Monday we will take the trailer up to Cedar Rapids where they will be loaded in Semi-trucks and taken to Minneapolis. I found out this week that we have the largest collection center in this area, after the Cedar Rapids site where we deliver the boxes.
Thanksgiving calls are coming in every day. Volunteers who want to work and people who want to be picked up or have meals delivered to them. Collin is coordinating all these details—a big job—so give her a thanks when you see her.
We again had a large donation of 20 turkeys and several other things. Last time I heard we need some people to cook the turkeys. Call if you can help. We are expecting even more people this year, because of the flooding, etc., but we will have enough food for everyone who comes.
On the bulletin board by the office there are several thank-you notes from the kids at Lucas school. The second grade class all wrote nice notes. We used $100 from our benevolence fund to buy school supplies for kids who needed them. In cooperation with other churches in the area we were able to buy some needed supplies. Every time you give a gift to the church that is marked benevolence on the envelope it goes to someone who has a need. It is often a church attender, but might be someone from our community.
Heavy use of the food bank continues. Even with the boy scouts food drive, it is hard to keep the cupboard stocked. So many people responded to Darlene’s appeal for coats for the needy. Thanks for your good response. And say thanks to Darlene when you see her.
Claude is busy getting the kitchen ready for next week. A lot of work has gone into it, and it is looking good. Thanks Claude
