Family Matters Meeting & Potluck
Next Sunday will be a potluck and Family Matters meeting. The potluck is simple. Sign up for what you want to bring, come and eat. The family matters is more complicated. We will discuss the following items:
v A proposal to change our fiscal year. It currently begins April 1. We propose change it to August 1. This will match it up with the ministry year. This requires a change in our Policies and Procedures. v A budget for 4 months, April 1 to July 31. Then a new fiscal year will start (assuming that we approve the recommendation to change the fiscal year). The recommendation is that there be a family matters meeting July 15, a business meeting July 29, and a second annual meeting of the year on August 25.
v Another change in our Policies and Procedures. This change reflects on how we amend the Policies and Procedures. Currently we have to send a mailing to every member to notify them of a vote to amend the P & P. The amendment states that if we discuss the proposed change at a family matters meeting before the vote, we don’t need to send a mailing. All these items are posted on the bulletin board by the office. A Family Matters Meeting is an information meeting. No votes will be taken. It allows to congregation to discuss and question what is happening a few weeks before any action is taken. With adequate time to think about it before hand, the process of voting is much more simple. People who are not members of the River may attend to be informed of what is happening. Our partners from Genesis are also invited if they would like to see how we operate here at the River. When we have business meetings and vote on these matters, only members are allowed to vote. (an aside: Several people are currently in the process of becoming members. We are tentatively planning a baptism service for Easter Sunday.)
